This event is being co-presented with Lakeview Concerts.
The performance will be a re-broadcast of the Saturday, November 7th concert, and will be featured at 7 PM EST on Sunday, November 8th as a YouTube premiere. Ticket buyers will have access to the recording for one week after the initial premiere. There will be a live Q/A session on Zoom with the artists after the premiere ends.
Join international opera soprano Laquita Mitchell and Grammy Award-nominated pianist Myra Huang as they present a musical offering full of healing energy for the world only a few days after the United States’ historic 2020 election.
The program will feature an extraordinary piece by Mozart "Ch'io mi scordi di te? ... Non temer, amato bene" (Will I forget you? ... Fear not, beloved) written for Nancy Storace, a close friend of Mozart, which prompted an unusual personal note by the composer on his catalog that it was “for Mlle Storace and me.” The piece features a rich dialogue, between the voice and piano, both parts deeply expressive and demanding.
Reflecting on and processing the current collective struggle for equity in America, Laquita and Myra will also perform works by Margaret Bond and Florence Price, both African American female composers. Bond’s “Dream Variations” is based on a poem with the same name by Langston Hughes with whom the composer collaborated frequently with.
We welcome you to join us at Open Space with Open Hearts for this incredible dialogue and music.
